Summer 2016 Update....Flooding, grants, hot showers and improvements
The Air source heat pumps have now been installed and tested, and are ready for the summer season.
Following our unfortunate flooding incident on 6th February, we obtained a Sport England Flood Relief Grant for £4690 which has enabled us to rectify the situation, including complete replacement of the tea shed fittings. We are also in receipt of a further grant from the Dartmoor Community Fund of £2895 for installation of hot showers and changing room improvements. We will also be using a new UV water clarification system, which will allow us to keep chlorine usage to an absolute minimum.
Lottery Grant September 2015
In the final days of September 2015, we received confirmation that we have been successful in our application for funding from Sport England, to the tune of over £50,000 to enable our solar and air source heat pump heating project to go ahead. This comes from the Lottery's "inspired by 2012" sector, following the London Olympics, and will enable us to maintain the water temperature at an ambient temperature when the weather fails us as it has in the recent summer season. The PV panels have been installed and air-source heat pumps are on the way this spring.
New pool liner
In 2014, the fantastic new liner for the pool was installed just before we opened in May at a cost of £30,636 (including VAT). The pool was filled with river water at 14 degrees and within a few days with the solar covers on was up to 18 degrees. By late June after some consistently sunny warm weather, it was a lovely 23 degrees. The liner has undoubtedly helped in raising the temperature, partly as there are no longer any leaks having to be topped up with river water. The pool was busy every day and more children were swimming their first length and improving their confidence in the water.
The male changing rooms now have a new ceiling still allowing the swallow access into the roof space as usual. The toddler pool has also been relined.
